The lowest temperature for JANUARY 2012 was 4.9 degrees on 12th January 2012
The hottest temperature for JANUARY 2012 was 33.7 degrees on 3rd & 4th January 2012
The total rainfall for JANUARY 2012 was 52.6 mm
January 2012 temperatures were still quite low for this time of year. Not many sunny days, rarely in a row, rarely for a full day. Once predictably long hot summers have not been the norm for possibly the last two summers - with the weather unpredictable by the hour and it feeling more like autumn than summer. Some of the trees and plants are showing signs of autumn as well, with several claret ash turning red in my yard, crocus re-blooming for the second time this season, some deciduous trees preparing to shed their leaves. Gardeners have complained of not enough sun to bring on their tomatoes and basic vegetables. Normally I'd be mowing every two or three weeks for about three months over summer, when in fact I've only done it thrice so far. The area doesn't look dry, as it should at this time of year, but instead has the feel of north coast NSW where afternoon rainfall and electrical storms are the norm. A lot of appliances have been damaged due to electrical storms this month.
The long hot sweaty nights have not been seen and in fact while I had three blankets on my bed for winter, I still have two for summer. I have had nights of reaching for extra clothing to keep warm. Indoor temperatures are still not comfortable and I find I'm still wearing socks, cardy and long pants in the mornings and evenings. Most days still threaten rain that doesn't usually arrive. Rain is not highly sought after at this time of year, when we would normally be praying for it, we're praying it won't instead, The fire season has been low to moderate (instead of the usual high risk fire ban period). Daylight fades around 8.40pm.

MONTHLY RAINFALL January 2011 February 2011 March 2011 April 2011 May 2011 June 2011 July 2011 August 2011 September 2011 October 2011 November 2011 December 2011 ANNUAL RAINFALL 2011 | 22.0 mm 21.0 mm 32.6 mm 21.0 mm 50.2 mm 9.2 mm 6.8 mm 63.4 mm 92.4mm 61.8 mm 131 mm 63.8 mm 575.20 mm | (Half that of last year's unusually high rainfall) |
LOWEST TEMP for 2011 was - 5.8 on 16th May 2011
HIGHEST TEMP for 2011 was 38.7 degrees on 26th January 2011
HIGHEST RAINFALL month was September 2011
IN BRIEF - 2011 started with an unusually mild, wet summer followed by a cold, rather dry winter that possibly didn't get as cold as it might normally.
Summer did not feel that it actually arrived in December 2011 when it was due and has instead been replaced by months of overcast, unpredictable weather that's not unpleasant - in that we can all live without the long sweaty days - nor pleasant, predictable, consistent or even comfortable temps. We did see quite a large amount of sudden downpours and electrical storms. There was no major flooding, as there was unexpectedly December 2010.
With all the rainfall this year and some early warm spring days, it produced high paddock growth which tempted the State Bureau to bring the fire season forward a month early. It was not however needed as it was a low to moderate fire risk season due to the lack of long hot dry summer days.
Autumn and winter were very reasonable and didn't seem to get to persistently low temperatures, there was the odd -5 degree cold start, lots of windy overcast days, but very little rainfall.
In summary, it felt more like weather on the Northern Coastal areas of NSW, not the Central Tablelands. I wouldn't be alone in wanting several sunny days to coincide - especially on the weekends !!

The lowest temperature for DECEMBER 2011 was 7.5 degrees on 3rd December 2011
The hottest temperature for DECEMBER 2011 was 29.3 degrees on 25th December 2011
The total rainfall for DECEMBER 2011 was 63.8 mm
December 2011 temperatures were still unusually low for this time of year - first month of Summer. The hottest and most pleasant day of the month was Christmas Day, when it managed to be sunny, windfree and dry (for at least one whole day), The weather has continued to be mainly overcast, slightly windy and often chilly for this time of year. Tempereratures stayed in the low to mid twenties, when they should have been at least in the thirties, occasionally tipping towards forty. Signs of summer have only briefly shown themselves and never for more than several days in a row. The weather can change several times in one day, usually for the worse, very often with some theatrical thunder and lightning. We have seen months of cloudy days only occasionally interspersed with the odd sunny day. Night temperatures still fell to unusually low temps. (Summer begins) Daylight fades around 8.30pm.

The lowest temperature for NOVEMBER 2011 was 7.2 degrees on 2nd November 2011
The hottest temperature for NOVEMBER 2011 was 34.6 degrees on 14th November 2011
The total rainfall for NOVEMBER 2011 was 131 mm
November 2011 temperatures were warming, Days are still mostly overcast and grey. A period of four or five days mid month were suddenly unbelievably hot, but thankfully dropped back to more moderate temperatures. A good bout of rain in the last week of the month has warded off early drought signs. It could be quite a hot, rainy stormy summer again (similar to last years) with good strong growth patterns occurring, but leaving farmers worrying about fungus in their crops from unseasonal summer rains. We can't win - never a perfect season. Daylight fades around 7.40pm.

The lowest temperature for OCTOBER 2011 was 1.1 degrees on 10th October 2011
The hottest temperature for OCTOBER 2011 was 28.3 degrees on 22, 24 & 25 October 2011
The total rainfall for OCTOBER 2011 was 61.8 mm
October 2011 temperatures were still on the cool side. However the NSW Fire Season has started a month early due to an unseasonal amount of grassfires, due to last summer's strong rainfall and plant growth. Daylight savings commenced this month, so clocks were wound forward one hour. The days have been relatively overcast, threatening more rain than has occurred. Certainly not light warm spring weather as it should be for this time of year. Not time to put the cardigans away yet.
Daylight fades around 7.30pm.

The lowest temperature for SEPTEMBER 2011 was -2.2 degrees on 13th September 2011
The hottest temperature for SEPTEMBER 2011 was 28.2 degrees on 18th September 2011
The total rainfall for SEPTEMBER 2011 was 92.4 mm
September 2011 Spring temperatures ranged from cold in the mornings and evenings, to quite warm and pleasant in the middle of the day. Rain was very much needed and we saw one inch (25mm) mid-month, with blessed relief at the end of the month with almost two inches (55mm) in the last two days of the month (and it's still coming today, 1st October). It's filled my tanks and will slow down the number of people already seen carting water, which is unusual when the weather hasn't even warmed up yet. Let's hope it's not a dangerously dry summer as it has been for this winter.
(Spring Begins) Daylight fades around 6.20pm.

The lowest temperature for AUGUST 2011 was -2.3 degrees on 13th August 2011
The hottest temperature for AUGUST 2011 was 23.4 degrees on 3rd August 2011
The total rainfall for AUGUST 2011 was 65.4 mm
August 2011 temperatures were cold, but not as cold as they can get for this time of year. We are still looking for more rain. Not a lot of sunny days around and the winds are still strong and cold. Inside with the fire going is the best place to be.
Daylight fades around 6.10pm.

The lowest temperature for JULY 2011 was -5.6 degrees on 30th July 2011
The hottest temperature for JULY 2011 was 18.5 degrees on 31st July 2011
The total rainfall for JULY 2011 was 6.88mm
July 2011 temperatures were reasonably cold, considered fairly normal at this time of year. At least the winds had recently abated. Several unseasonably warm days finished the month. Strangley the coldest morning on the 30th July, was followed by the hottest day on NSW records for July. It really didn't feel right. Saw a magpie attacking the postie at the end of the month and they really shouldn't do that till around late August, early September. We need rain soon, very little rainfall from lots of threatening days. Daylight fades around 5.55pm.

The lowest temperature for JUNE 2011 was -3.7 degrees on 26th June 2011
The hottest temperature for JUNE 2011 was 17.5 degrees on 1st June 2011
The total rainfall for JUNE 2011 was 9.2 mm
June 2011 temperatures started off quite warm for the first day of winter. There were a couple of really cold miserable days and it was quite a windy month, which added to the chill & discomfort factor. There was little rainfall but plenty of overcast days. Threatening rain that never came and compared to recent months, quite dry really.
Daylight fades around 5.30pm. (Winter begins)

The lowest temperature for MAY 2011 was -5.8 degrees on 16th May 2011
The hottest temperature for MAY 2011 was 22.6 degrees on 1st May 2011
The total rainfall for MAY 2011 was 50.2 mm rainfall
May 2011 temperatures are getting seriously cold with several minus 5 days in a row mid-month. Rain was very much needed when it arrived late in the month. Daylight fades around 5.450pm.

The lowest temperature for APRIL 2011 was 0.5 degrees on 13th April 2011
The hottest temperature for APRIL 2011 was 27.2 degrees on 2nd April 2011
The total rainfall for APRIL 2011 was 21 mm rainfall
April 2011 temperatures were starting to get a little fresh. Definitely jacket weather. Rainfall was still very much needed. Daylight savings time were cut back one hour on 3rd April and daylight faded around 6pm.

The lowest temperature for MARCH 2011 was 6.8 degrees on 24th March 2011
The hottest temperature for MARCH 2011 was 31.6 degrees on 1st March 2011
The total rainfall for MARCH 2011 was 32.6 mm rainfall
March 2011 temperatures were quite reasonable for the first month of Autumn. No real extremes of temperature with only a small amount of rainfall. The area could certainly do with more, considering the bountiful rainfall we had gotten used to over the last twelve months. Daylight is fading around 7.30 pm. (Daylight savings commences 3rd April 2011 clocks will fall back one hour and the evenings will be suddenly shorter) (Autumn begins)

The lowest temperature for FEBRUARY 2011 was 8.4 degrees on 25th February 2011
The hottest temperature for FEBRUARY 2011 was 37.1 degrees on 4th Feburary 2011
The total rainfall for FEBRUARY 2011 was 21.0 mm rainfall
February 2011 temperatures were again reasonably mild. The end of summer usually means long, hot, endless (sleepless) nights leaving you long for cooler conditions. Besides a few particularly hot days at the beginning of the month, I still reach out for my light cardigan in the evenings. Most of the summer days were unusually overcast with rain coming close but often not reaching us. The low amount of January rainfall and the February winds helped to dry out the gardens which had been having such irregular but bountiful rainfalls over the last twelve months. The region stilll looks alive and green, which is also an irregular sight for this time of year. Daylight is fading around 8.10 pm.

The lowest temperature for JANUARY 2011 was 11 degrees on 30th January 2011
The hottest temperature for JANUARY 2011 was 38.7 degrees on 26th January 2011
The total rainfall for JANUARY 2011 was 22.2 mm
January 2011 temperatures were reasonably mild for this time of year, except for some very hot days at the end of January, with the highest temperature recorded on Australia Day of 38.7 degrees. We have only had 22.2mm of rainfall this month and ironically, we need rain again soon as the countryside has fallen into the habit of monthly or fortnightly rainfall over the past twelve months and is drying out under hot days and strong winds as a spinoff from Queensland's Cyclone Yasi. I'm still finding myself in a cardigan and socks at the end of most days. Daylight is fading around 8.20 pm.

The lowest temperature for DECEMBER 2010 was 4.7 degrees on 21st December 2010
The hottest temperature for DECEMBER 2010 was 33.2 degrees on 31st December 2010
December was a very wet month. The 1st December saw 100.8mm on the one day which was enough for river flooding and road closures for almost three weeks. Several homes in Mudgee were evacuated, but it was mostly road and sportsfields damaged. It was quite an overcast, coolish month for December and I was still reaching for a light cardigan and socks in the evening hours. Still sleeping with a blanket which I should have tossed months ago. Inundated with large mosquitos and bugs from the rain. The extra rainfall this year seems to have attracted large numbers of birds, such as lorikeets to the area. Daylight fades around 8.45pm. (Summer begins)

The lowest temperature for NOVEMBER 2010 was 3.3 degrees on 3rd November 2010
The hottest temperature for NOVEMBER 2010 was 29.3 degrees on 12th November 2010
Well the temperatures have become quite comfortable, but even at the end of November I'm still reaching for a cardigan in the evenings. Another month with another 100+mm of rain. Every month has had rainfall, which must be almost a record. November had another 136.8mm for the entire month, but as I write this today, 1st December, has experienced 100.8mm since midnight and it's only mid afternoon. The Cudgegong River is overflowing, roads are being cut and events cancelled and we may yet see weeks ahead of wet weather. Quite phenomenal, since this time last year we hadn't seen rain for at least six months and we were DESPERATE. What extremes we face. Daylight fades around 8.30pm.

The lowest temperature for OCTOBER 2010 was 1.7 degrees on 18th October 2010
The hottest temperature for OCTOBER 2010 was 26.3 degrees on 23rd October 2010
There was a reasonable amount of rain around for October, 72.4mm. That on top of the last four months rain has made it a superb spring. The temperatures were quite acceptable, a light jacket indoors is still needed sometimes during the day and definitely still at night, but it's quickly getting down to T-shirt and shorts weather. Daylight savings time started at the beginning of the month. Days are getting longer and light is fading around 7pm.

The coldest temperature for SEPTEMBER 2010 was 1.2 on 12th September 2010
The hottest temperature for SEPTEMBER 2010 was 24.9 degrees on 2nd September 2010
Spring is in the air and the temperatures are climbing. It's still fresh in the daytime and cold at night. We've seen a lot of rainfall this month, 93mm and last 91.8, which has been unusual for winter, but should put us in good stead for the coming hot and dry months. Light is fading around 6.30pm (Spring begins)
¨°º¤ø„¸¸„ø ø„¸¸„ø¤º°¨
Mudgee has enjoyed quite a mild winter (2010), with only one bout of really cold weather, where it dropped to a freezing -6.7 degrees celsius on 30th June 2010. It hasn't been a particularly wet winter, but we have had 457.2mm this year with a total of 99mm for July. Whereas this time last year we had only had 216.4mm. So it might be a reasonable spring. Light fades around 5pm
