Friday Mar 2 2012 6.30pm - ADFAS LECTURE 1 “Hand Grenades Like Cartier Chips” by Antony Penrose, son of surrealist artist and collector Sir Roland Penrose and fashion model and photographer Lee Miller. Roland Penrose and Lee Miller counted Picasso, Man Ray and Max Ernst among their close friends and Antony grew up at Farley Farm near Eastbourne in Sussex among a passing cavalcade of famous family acquaintances. His lecture examines the fascinating life of his mother, Lee Miller 


Friday Apr 13 2012 6.30pm - ADFAS LECTURE 2  "It’s Not All Wine and Roses” by Australian gardening lecturer, author and historian, Dr Holly Kerr Forsyth. Her lecture will relay some of her more dangerous and unusual adventures as she travels the world, photographing gardens and finding material for her books, and for her weekly column in The Weekend Australian.  Holly will also be available in a local historic garden on the following day, Saturday 14th April, to showcase and sell her books. 


Friday May 4 2012 6.30pm - ADFAS LECTURE 3 “The Glories of Winchester Cathedral” by Michael Wheeler. Since the seventh century a sacred building has existed on the site of Winchester Cathedral, one of England’s greatest treasures. Michael will examine not only the magnificent building’s architecture, but also the treasures within: its memorials, carvings, misericords and modern artwork. 


Friday Jun 8 2012 6.30pm - ADFAS LECTURE 4 “Beyond Capricorn: Map Making and European Expansion (and Discovery of Australia)” by Australian lecturer Professor Robert Clancy, an immunologist from Newcastle and an enthusiast of historic maps. 


Friday Jul 6 2012 6.30pm - ADFAS LECTURE 5 “Sheer Folly – Garden History” by Caroline Holmes,who will look at the history of landscapes and gardens from the sixteenth century to the twenty-first century and their role as settings for follies. 

Friday Aug 10 2012 6.30pm - ADFAS LECTURE 6 “Red Vibrations” by Alexandra Drysdale,who will discuss the vast range of this vibrant colour, how it affects our emotions and how it has been used by artists 


Friday Sep 7 2012 6.30pm - ADFAS LECTURE 7 “Posters of the Belle Epoque, the Great Age of the Poster” by Charles Harris, who will examine how technical innovation, creative genius and craftsmanship in the art of the poster became the pioneer of mass communication.


Friday Oct 5 2012 6.30pm - ADFAS LECTURE 8 “Stolen Masterpieces” by Shauna Isaac, who will discuss the theft of several major works of art in recent times.
